“Salvation and relief in the punk club bathroom”

Little is more sacred than the sanctuary you can find alone in a grimy bathroom stall hidden behind a door marked “all genders welcome”. Littering the walls you can find pieces of others left behind- stickers, names, phrases, bands. Remnants of those who came before.

NOTAFLOF is a community project for you and strangers to come together and explore the same space, one at a time. Punk is for the people- everyone who comes inside becomes punk, but who will you be when you leave?

What will you leave for others to find?

NOTAFLOF was my final project from my time as a cohort member in the Odyssey Works Experience Design Program in 2023. We were the 2nd cohort ever, which was super exciting- exploring the program and developing skills that will be used in the future for others.

NOTAFLOF came out of my deep desire to connect with my local Bay Area hardcore punk scene. I spent 2 months of research- going to 40 shows, interviewing a dozen people, doing deep dives and readings. It all culminated in the salvation and relief a graffitied and dirty bathroom can be- a place of community even while still being a part of it while alone, catching your breath. why not add your name to the wall?
